Week 18 – Hot Potato

Welcome to Week 18 and 6 days people, I can’t believe I’m almost to the halfway point.  It feels like yesterday when I ran into the bedroom around 6 o’clock in the morning turning on all the lights to yell to George that I was pregnant.  Now, there is no “running” but I’m still staying pretty active and have to say that I still feel pretty great as a pregnant momma.  This week has been going sooooo slow but that’s because Monday will be the big day when we find out the sex.  P.S. have you voted?

This week Baby Herron is the size of a sweet potato – nothing small anymore!  You should have seen my face when I saw the size of these bad boys at Kroger yesterday.  Actually, I was on the phone with Kat and the conversation probably went something like this: “Holy SHIT these potatoes are huge”  I might have added other 4-letter words but we’ll leave those out in case I read these stories back to Baby Herron before he/she is 5 years old.  The picture below was taken last night, so technically I was still 18 weeks and 5 days but look at that picture and look at my “virtual” self on the right side…..ummmm…..right!  It was fun last night because both Kat and Rick were over so they were witnesses to the whole experience.  Check it!

I threw this outfit on so I wouldn't blend in with the wall but liked it so much that I'm wearing it to work today 🙂

{How far along?} 18 Weeks, 6 days (in the picture but today I am 18 Weeks, 5 days)

{Total weight gain} 8 pounds – weighed two weeks ago at the Doc office.  Not sure how much of this weight gain I’m willing to share past 10 or 12 pounds.  This might be answered as “no idea”

{How big is baby?} According to TheBump.com the baby is 5.6 inches and weighs approx. 6.7 oz.

it is tripling in size!!!!

{Maternity clothes?} YES… no denying it!  And THANK YOU to my pal, Laura McCosham, for allowing me to have her old maternity clothes.  I just recently purchased 4 tops at Macy’s but holy moly they get soooo expensive.

{Sleep?} TOSSING AND TURNING but I have a new pillow for my head and I use the Yoda pillow to put between my knees.  Seems to be somewhat comfortable.

{Best moment this week?} I know these aren’t huge moments but I was able to get out and walk a few times this week.  Plus, on Halloween I introduced myself to a neighbor up the street who also provides child care.  She was happy that I was only needing her part-time and she seems like she would be a great.  Bonus, she is only 6 houses up the street!

{Movement?} I have to say that I’ve been feeling these little flutter or bubbles in my tummy these last few days.  They sort of tickle and make me want to itch my stomach but this morning I read that these little feelings I’m having could be the baby moving.  How awesome is that?!?!  I’ll probably start to really notice movement in the next couple of weeks. (Still true!)

{Food cravings?} I LOVE milk!  And thanks to friends, Mark and Lauren, I’m drinking Horizon’s Organic Chocolate Milk with the DHA for healthy brain, eyes and heart.  Also, thanks to Jami I’m also drinking the Blue Diamond Almond Milk.  YUM, I love MILK!

{Labor signs?} Nope!

{Belly button in or out?} In but I’m noticing that it is getting smaller on the “in” section.

{What I miss} bending over without grunting weird and breathing heavy.  I also miss enjoying foods that I have total aversion too.  I thought mom was killing me with the salad she served me this week for dinner.  It tasted TERRIBLE.

{What I’m looking forward to} OMG we are a mere 4 days away from finding out the sex of Baby Herron.  George and I are so excited about this momentous occasion and to prepare we went to the mall this past week to make a stop at the Build-a-Bear Workshop.  We stopped to pick up a recorder for when we hear the heartbeat again on the loud stereo speakers, we’ll record it and then build a bear afterwards.  I’m hoping that we can dress the bear up gender appropriate and every time we squeeze the tummy it will be the babies heartbeat.  This will also be the baby’s first snuggle bear!

{Milestone} Baby Herron can HEAR!  Well, it is muffled like if we were under water and someone was talking to us but still it is hearing.  George has prepared a playlist for Baby Herron so I’ve had the mega-headphones turned up and resting on my belly.  I hope the baby gets my taste in music and loves EVERYTHING.  Also, I hope by hearing this music it will soothe the baby once out of the womb.  Hell, Baby Herron already has an iPod touch!

  1. I’m 7 weeks 5 days, and I have to tell you my food aversions are killing me! I used to eat salad every day for lunch, and I can’t take a bite without feeling like I”m going to vomit. My husband keeps trying to urge me to eat them because I seem to have aversion to all veggies, and hence I’m not getting very good nutrition, but I tried really hard today and almost lost my lunch on my desk. UGH!

    • Hang in there girl! I promise you it WILL get easier. I’m no doctor but just make sure you are getting your liquids and concentrate on the things that you can eat. I promise you it will all change depending on the stage of pregnancy that you are in. Only thing I haven’t been able to eat this whole time is chicken, the site, smell and thought makes me want to lose my cookies. Concentrate on fruits – you will get a lot of the same nutritional value (again, not a doctor just prego to prego advice) also try to sneak in extra folic acid and such where you can. For example, I sprinkle wheat germ on my PB&J sandwiches or adding whole grains or granola to my yogurt or ice cream! Don’t be hard on yourself, we have enough guilt to look forward to many years to come.

      Thanks for reading my blog!

  2. Man I am so hormonal, I swear I almost cried reading your reply! No one but my husband and my best friend (whose never been pregnant) know about my pregnancy, and it’s so nice to have some nice words from someone going through the same thing!! Your blog is great! I love your photos with the fruit/veggie item in them! Thanks so much!

    • Thanks again!! I enjoy writing it and I’m glad that I have followers other than my devoted mother, husband and other friends and family. Love that they read, don’t get me wrong, but nice that this helps you too.

I’m assuming this is your first pregnancy? It is for me and its a wild ride. I remember not telling the masses until I was comfortably past the first trimester mark, which I thought went pretty fast.

Right now I’m having a hard time sleeping, probably just some good practice for when the little bebe comes into this world. Are you getting a good night’s sleep? First trimester was the most exhausting days of my life. The key is to let your hubby do the things you normally took care of and take this time to sleep and sleep and SLEEP. You are producing a baby for crying out loud, no wonder you are pooped-out all the time! I had a hard time not feeling bad about this but then my exhaustion took over and I would fall asleep no matter what.

If you ever need anything just leave a comment and I’ll be sure to get back to you + there are TONS of mom’s-to-be and mom’s-already-been-there-done-that who read this blog and will help you out as well.

  3. Yup, totally my first! So many things to think about and do!

I’m exhausted all the time. I was a workout-a-holic pre-pregnancy, and now I can’t seem to get a workout in, or even go for a walk because I’m so tired. I sleep so much, and I’m still exhausted. I sleep pretty well most nights, but I do wake up once or twice to go to the bathroom. Just like you said, it’s always about an hour or so before I have to wake up that I have to pee!

Like you said making a baby is hard work! Luckily my husband is great, and really is doing so much to help out!
