The Herron Nest is shelling out some serious cash on our favorite “have-to-eat-at-every-meal” veggies which led us down the path to build our own garden. For me, this is serious news! I can talk a good game about a lot of “stuff” but gardening is completely out of my comfort zone. What better way to learn than to hit up the local farmer’s market to ask questions, rope in the family members with green thumbs, enlist your husband and mom for some grunt work and your toddler for the encouragement and motivation to live a healthier lifestyle.
So we found the perfect spot!
We picked out all the vegetable plants that Abbey and I loved (notice I didn’t mention George here) to eat from the West Chester Farmer’s Market. This included tomatoes (brandywine, roma and cherry), peppers (sweet yellow and red), squash and zucchini. After serious grunt work (yes I literally grunted) and help from Uncle Scrooge, George and Abbey, we had these lovely plants in the ground waiting to be loved!
Since the end of May we as a family have been watering the garden and it has seriously impressed me. I have been told that I picked easy first time veggies to grow but I think The Herron’s are genuinely good farmers.
Look at those peppers, LOVELY! And the squash/zucchini are getting close as well. I have a few blooms on the tomato plants but all in all I think we are doing pretty good. I’m talking Mr. Herron into letting me get chickens next, he’s cool with it at our “next house” if there is enough room.
Wow………..wasn’t it just a few weeks ago and they were itsy bitsy teeny weeny plants! Way to go Herron family!!!! Your garden does grow!!!!!!! Love, Mom
The squash and zucchini are out of CONTROL! I’m going to be grilling these up rather soon
Way to go Jesy! Your zuchini plants are beautiful and that pepper is looking mighty fine. I LOVE my garden….to walk out for fresh tomatoes and basil to make caprese salad is just the best. With the grape sized ones they often dont even make it into the house…lol. Enjoy the ‘fruits’ of your labor 😉
Have to be honest Sandy, I should have done some herbs and totally forgot! I’m really looking forward to the tomatoes and peppers as that is what Abbey and I eat mostly for our veggies. I almost tried lettuce but didn’t want to dig out the bugs before I ate it. EW!
