And just when I thought things couldn’t get any crazier at The Herron Nest, George and I decided to add a kitchen makeover to our long list of to-dos. {WHAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?}
We moved into our new house just about one year ago and it sparked a whirlwind of home improvements courtesy of my whole family + extended family. The house we purchased was one that has “great bones” but the interior was full of blemishes like wall paper, old gross carpet, and smoke smell multiplied by infinity. These were all things that had to be tackled immediately in order for myself and the kids to move in.
Here are some snapshots of rooms in the house during inspection.
And here are some snapshots of rooms in the house during “construction” of tearing down wallpaper, scraping off said wallpaper goop, tearing up the carpet going upstairs & in every room upstairs and cleaning EVERY surface! Side note, we had all ceilings sanded and resurfaced then painted because of the smoke smell and texture of the ceilings, the smell would never have come out otherwise.
Fast forward to one year later and we are talking about a totally different interior than when we moved in – new paint in every room except the laundry room, new carpet, remodel of downstairs bathroom, new smells … ahhhhhhh, new lighting, a CHALKBOARD wall/mural courtesy of two very talented friends and a house full of chaos and love.
Pictures of how it all looks now (some in progress photos are in the mix).
But… we are not done! I was just thinking outloud, what is wrong with us? Why do we want another project right now? The truth of the matter is that we spend the majority of our time in our kitchen, it is the main hub of the house. The painting has begun in the kitchen but the cabinets, hardware and even some cabinets are just old and need either replaced or repaired and refreshed. We are not able to afford all new cabinets and the dream remodel that we want right now so the next best thing is underway. As of last night, the first cabinet came off the hinges and is being sanded and prepped for paint. Can’t wait to see our vision come to life over the next few weeks (it will probably be months) with our latest DIY project!
One last group of the before pics…..(this is even pre new fridge, stove, dishwasher but you get the idea):
Stay tuned…..
Great telling of the year in ‘action’. I can’t wait to see the cabinets when finished. They will be amazing against the gray. And remember, a glass of wine is always only steps away 🍷😀
