Imagination at The Nest with Fruit Shoot

When you are a parent, you know how important it is to keep your children active. I’m also learning how crucial imaginative play is for my child’s development. With various technology and “screen” time it is nice to shut it all down to just get creative with our little ones.  I recently discovered a fun new juice, Fruit Shoot and they are currently celebrating imaginative play with a little competition.  Here’s how The Herron Nest joined in on the fun!

To celebrate the ‘Have a Ball Stunt Hunt’ we are also sharing our favorite imaginative activity ideas for you to try at home!

  • Grocery Shopping – indoor activity – we give our toddler fun responsibilities of picking items like apples, oranges, and even a loaf of bread which is fun for her to find, checkout and pay.
  • Super Hero Missions – indoor/outdoor backyard activity – we give our toddler various super hero missions like, “find mommy a green crayon” to which she runs through the house in search of a green crayon or any other item I have her seek.
  • Pirate Heroes – backyard activity – it is AMAZING what a little paper towel or toilet paper roll can do for your child’s imagination, we choose to use ours to turn us into pirates, “ahoy mate”

WE invite YOU to explore the best of your children’s imagination by participating in the competition.

{Competition Details}  The ‘Have a Ball Stunt Hunt’ competition is a great demonstration of Fruit Shoot’s commitment to imaginative play and has a reward that is priceless. Here’s how it works:

1. Visit the contest homepage to upload a video of your kids showing off their best tricks, stunts, and super-cool abilities with a Fruit Shoot bottle and any ball. To qualify, please make sure your video is under 30 seconds. Check out the stunt video we have already souped-up for inspiration!

2. Share your video with friends and family and encourage them to vote for your video.

3. Every week, we’ll chose a winning video, give it the full-on Hollywood special effects treatment, and release it on our contest homepage for the world to see!

{FREEBIE Details} Entrants will receive a free bottle of Fruit Shoot when entering the contest. Entrants will also receive a Waboba ball anytime they buy 6 bottles of Fruit Shoot in-store.

Ab had a blast using her imagination to create fun games with the Fruit Shoot bottles, but she also enjoys drinking them!  They feature a no-spill cap, and contain no fructose corn syrup…which makes it a better option than other flavored drinks.  They also come in an assortment of tasty flavors, and of course the fun, bright colored bottle!

Thank you to Fruit Shoot for sponsoring today’s post, but my love for their juice and endorsing children’s imaginations is all my own!

Super Stars in the Making

The ladies of this Herron household are never shy around the camera and this time there is an informative video to prove it. Abbey and I were stars in the latest video produced by US Digital Partners for Pampers Kandoo to help introduce the Kandoo Potty Training Guide and Tools.

Timing is PERFECT! George and I are ready to introduce potty training to Abbey and we think the Potty Training Toolkit that Kandoo offers is the right tool and system for us and our family. We’d love for Abbey to be walking into preschool this fall wearing her big-girl-underwear versus packing the diapers and wipes. Not too mention that we are already using diapers for Jack so one less would save us a lot of money.

Check out the video to hear my advice on potty training and check out the cuteness of Abbey, as she is really the star!

Don’t forget to checkout the free tools with your very own free potty training guide, bathroom chart, door hanger and certificate provided here: http://www.kandookids.com/kandoo-potty-training-toolkit/

#VioletVoxBox Review for YOU

voxbox-blogimage-popup2I am one of the lucky Influenster members that was sent the Violet VoxBox this month to use and review a variety of different products. Because I am a member of Influenster, I received all products complimentary, lucky muah! If you are also interested in a similar opportunity, you can certainly strut your social media and blogging credentials at www.influenster.com. It did take a little while to get my first package but so worth the wait!

Now that the legalese is done, let’s get to the good stuff, what products I was sent and how I thought of each.

My #VioletVoxBox came in the mail during the first major snow storm in Cincinnati, literally through rain, sleet and snow this violet still bloomed and made its way to my door step…in a violet colored box of course.

#Influenster #VioletVoxBox The contents couldn’t fly out of the box fast enough, I love getting these packages in the mail because they are typically something that will make me feel like a better version of myself. It is amazing what a little makeup, nail polish, and good hair products can do for a woman’s mood, right?

#Influenster #VioletVoxBox contents{Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spa} Hands down, this is by far my favorite product out of all the products I was sent to try. The application was a cinch and it made my skin feel amazing. You didn’t have to dig your fingers into a jar, get mask “stuff” stuck under your nails and make a complete mess of your bathroom sink. You know what I mean! This was a pre-cut mask that fit nicely over your freshly clean face. You wear for about 10-15 minutes, pitch the mask and rinse your face – DONE – and it was literally that easy. The only con was that Ab said I was “scary” and it took her a few minutes to warm up to the idea that mommy was really under the mask.

(Not Your Mother’s – Clean Freak Style} As you can see in the image above my friend @Kelsey_Gal really loves this product. That actually got me super pumped to have dirty hair just so I could use this dry shampoo. I’m typically a wash-every-other-day hair person, I take a shower but just don’t wash my hair every day. I heard one time that it was better for your hair and as much as I blow dry and straighten my locks, I would believe this. I’m lucky enough that my hair actually looks pretty fantastic on day 2 so I actually had to wait till day 3 before I had some of the grease look. All you do is spray the dry shampoo into your roots, brush (I also blew my hair out while brushing) and DONE. I think the smell could be improved but the results were great.

{Sally Hansen Triple Shine} So I am prego and have decided that bending over to touch my toes let alone paint them is pretty much a chore. God love him, my fantastic husband was the one that actually painted my toe nails so that I could say I indeed used this product. The color I received was the bright yellow shown above, not my favorite color to wear especially when I’m already pale, but again it was worth the try. The applicator is not your typical brush, it is more of a long rectangle stick with a brush on the end, what is the purpose of that? I felt like a lot of the color just sort of hung there and too much was then dripped onto the nail. All in all, this product was okay. Not my favorite nail polish but yes, it was shiny.

{Goody ATHLETIQUE} It is pretty much a necessity for me to wear a sport headband when I engage in any sport/exercise. The day that I wore my Goody Athletique headband around the house it was a nice difference in just a pony but the day that I wore it to my very first Pure Barre class was just damned frustrating. I don’t have time to re-adjust and re-do my hair 20 times when I’m trying to tighten my “seat” and make sure my legs are in a perfect V on the floor. Needless to say, I’m going to stick with my beloved Sweaty Bands when it comes to my sport headband accessory. It got me through a half marathon withOUT budging  – it aint broke and I aint going to fix it.

{SOYJOY} If you haven’t noticed the pattern by now I’ll go ahead and point it out to you, I’m going from most favorite product to my least favorite product. Yes folks, this was least favorite. I’m sorry but it is straight up NAST-E! I took one bite, guzzled water to get it down, took another bite hoping it would get better. I spit that out and threw it away. Nothing else to say here 🙂

Sharing The Gift of Green BEAN Delivery {$15 Off}

For the past month, The Herron Nest has been receiving fresh, organic, mostly local and super delicious fruits and veggies from Green BEAN Delivery. Deliveries comes weekly in a, well what else, green bin that is insulated with an ice pack to help keep all your goodies fresh. One addition that we always add to our weekly bin is Ab’s favorite milk, Snowville Creamery. Have you had it before?

What else do we get delivered? Since my 2-year-old is a fruit monster I always make sure that we have bananas, avocados, and oranges handy. The other plus is that we are introducing her caracara orange_TheHerronNest.comto other fruits that I wouldn’t normally think to purchase from my local grocery like the cara-cara oranges. Wow, have you tried one of these babies before? They are lower in acid but much sweeter than a naval orange.

I have recently referred GBD to a co-worker and he is loving the bi-weekly (he chose that for his delivery cadence) delivery too. Thought I would share the gift of Green BEAN with my Herron Nest readers too. For each person trying Green BEAN out for the very first time, you will receive $15 off you first order – just make sure to mention my name as your referral source to Green BEAN. Yes, I also get $15 off my next produce bin as well. You can do this at GreenBEANdelivery.com/referrals – okey-dokey-artichokey?

Who doesn’t love free?

This week there are a few freebies I wanted to put on your radar, especially if you are a new mommy or expectant mommy!

{Number 1} There is a website that Jami pointed me to called Freebies 4 Mom is a great place to check daily if you are looking for free items.  Let me point out that some free items do want you to jump through hoops but I have found that most of these are easy, plus the author of Freebies 4 Mom gives you all the directions to help make it as painless as possible.  The other bonus about this site is that they have Pamper Reward codes that help boost your points.  Don’t know what I’m talking about?  Check out www.pampers.com and click on the “Gifts to Grow” to start your reward account for free.  You can earn items such as toys, books and other fun things for you and baby.

http://freebies4mom.com/ – “Spoiling you with the HOTTEST freebies”

{Number 2} Do you remember last month when I mentioned the free nurse cover-up?  The same company is now offering a free baby sling with a promo code (plus shipping).  This is very simple freebie but I have noticed that everyone and their mom are trying to get it before they are gone so the website is a bit slow at the moment.  Also, you can order more than one if you want by opening it up again in a new browser.  Be sure to snag this freebie before they are all gone.

https://www.sevenslings.com – use promo code “Halloween” for your free babysling, a $48.00 value (don’t forget you will be responsible for shipping)

You get to choose from seven different chic styles that match your trend.  I chose the green and white one, still don’t know if Baby Herron is a boy or girl plus I figured it would last longer if it was gender neutral.

Enjoy your freebies and keep me posted if you find more!

My new favorite website; BabyTalk.com

For those of you who are expecting or already tote around a little bambino, this is the website you NEED to check out – http://www.babytalk.com.  It is spectacular for tips, what to do’s and FREEBIES!  Check out the “Contests and Giveaways” link at the top right section of the website to enter to win lots of great stuff.  Then go to this link http://www.parenting.com/article/Mom/Work–Family/The-Best-Coupon-Sites-for-Mom for the ins and outs of the best free stuff available online.  Here is just a sampling of things you will find:

  • Fisher-Price
Check www.fisher-price.com regularly to see which Fisher-Price toys are on sale and to cash in on special offers for free stuff.
  • JC Penney Portraits
Visit www.jcportraits.com to print out coupons.
  • Carter’s children’s clothing
Go to www.carters.com to sign up for the Celebration Club to receive special offers.
  • Scott Paper
Go to www.scottbrand.com to print a coupon and sign up for more coupons and promotion news.

How did I find this website?  Yesterday I received a “BabyTalk” magazine in the mail and started reading, I was hooked!  I encourage new and expectant mommies to sign up for the free magazine and check out the great website.  Enjoy!

Love the freebies

Being a new mom or REALLY new mom comes with many perks.  Sure, people are excited around you and allow you the “your pregnant” excuse when you forget something.  But the best of all the perks would be the amazing freebies.  When I first found out I was prego and went in for my first doctor appointment I walked out with a big swag bag full of freebies and goodies.  There was a $25 Shutterfly gift card, diaper, coupons and prenatal pills.  Pretty good for only being prego for 6 weeks.  Online it gets even better, there are offers left and right being displayed on various mom blogs or other website for a free this or that.  On Saturday I received a few of these free packages that I signed up for a few weeks back.

Freebie #1 – Graco sent me Lite up baby nail clippers.  I thought this was a great free item especially since I finally figured out what the light was for!  I was thinking it was so you could really see what you were doing because they are so tiny but my cousin, Kat, filled me in on the secret of clipping the nails while they are sleeping.  GENIUS!

I was actually supposed to get some “I’m prego” t-shirt (Aunt Karen sent the link) but I guess they ran out and I’m pretty happy with the nail clippers instead.

Here is the link for your free clippers – Graco Lite-Ups

Freebie #2 – a parenting website that I’m a member of (there are only 1,000 of them out there) sent me a code for a free “Udder-Cover” which covers you up while breastfeeding.  These bad-boys are retailed at $32.00 a piece and I got mine for free!  It is a great pattern (the picture shows the pattern I chose) and you can’t beat free.

I think you can still get an “UdderCover” and here are all the details if you are interested:

Go to uddercovers.com, click on “Shop Now”, select the product you would like (they also have 3 piece gift sets available with this promotion) and you will automatically be directed to the center of the page where you can enter in the promo code! Type in “Family2010” and it will pull up the ones available. They are selling out fast. You can use the code more than once – you just have to open a new browser/window to do so. Good Luck!

I’m on the hunt for other freebies and feel free to pass them along to me (and Jami) if you see other great stuff.  There are so many mom blogs that get their hands on free wipes, diapers and other great toys and accessories and I’m on the hunt for more (wow, I think I’m kind of addicted).  If you are an expecting mom or mom with little ones, check back for other freebies as I’ll list them here as well.
