#GuestPost How I Got My GLOW On! Rodan + Fields #Giveaway

Kat Ottopal is my cousin, my confidant, my sister-like, my best friend and now my go-to-skincare associate for Rodan + Fields. I’ve been using the Reverse skincare line for over a month now and can confidently state that I have had a face lift! Well, not technically, but my skin is glowing and perfect looking. I wanted to share with my readers this awesome skincare line, access to Kat and an opportunity to WIN a free mini-facial.

From Kat regarding her Personal Skincare Experience:

If you had asked me 8 months ago about my skincare routine, I would have laughed at you.  Point PicCollageblank, it was pathetic.  I was 31 years old and still using the same drug store face wash I had used since high school.  I washed my face in the shower only and never took my make up off at the end of the day.  I had success using a department store toner for most of my life, but somehow I didn’t realize my skin was changing as the years went by and I was continuing to use the same products and expected different results. The definition of insanity right?!?

My wash and toner couldn’t tell I was developing sun damage and wrinkles that I needed it to start addressing!  That stuff was barely fighting my occasional breakouts for heaven’s sake! I had a drawer of junk from greasy moisturizers, to overnight zit creams, to sunscreen that claimed it wouldn’t make my face break out.  Everything went to the graveyard of products that MAYBE helped me keep my skin looking the same, not better, definitely not better than before.  Every time I changed the routine I had to compensate by adding another product to fight the mess I was creating on my skin.

IMG_3900Thankfully, my friend Blair started talking to me about a skincare company she had become a consultant for called Rodan + Fields.  I hadn’t heard of the company but she told me Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields are the Stanford trained Dermatologists that created Proactiv.  I was intrigued and willing to give their products a shot based on Proactiv’s success and notoriety alone!  After going through the solution tool on her website we talked about what products would be best for my skin, based on my primary concerns.  She introduced me to a grown up skin care routine that I will forever be thankful for!  I opted to try the Reverse regimen for my sun damage, melasma, and to improve the texture and tone of my skin.  The first time I washed my face with the products I knew it was love at first wash.  I texted Blair immediately that this stuff smelled like sunshine and my skin felt amazing after my FIRST time using it.   I loved that each regimen has 4 steps and is a multi-med SYSTEM that works together.  Each regimen has some combination of a cleanser or mask, toner, treatment, moisturizer and a sunscreen.  I was FINALLY giving my skin what it had been craving for years, consistency and dermatologic grade products!!  My face was GLOWING after a week of daily use.  I was treating my problems, moisturizing and protecting my skin from further damage.  Something I had failed at prior to trying R+F.

After using the Reverse regimen for 6 months and being thrilled over my personal results I started to wonder about the business side of this company.  I mean, I was buying not only my regimen but I had tried the Multifunction eye cream, microdermabrasion paste, the AMP MD roller, and the Soothe regimen for sunburn…you name it and I wanted the amazing results I kept seeing my consultant post on Facebook.  I asked Blair plenty of questions about the Direct Selling aspect of Rodan + Fields, how the company supported the consultants, the pay structure and what my expectations should be as I considered this opportunity.  We talked for weeks then I attended a regional R+F event with Blair and ultimately, I decided to become a consultant myself right there at the event.  I couldn’t resist getting the best price for the products, telling people about my results, showing others how these products could help them and ultimately getting paid to wash my face!!

If you have a good skin care routine that is fantastic!  If your skin care routine isn’t giving you the results you are hoping for or you are at the end of your rope and have tried everything under the sun for your personal skin concerns, I encourage you to try Rodan + Fields.  Every product (including the amazing tools) comes with a 60 day, empty bottle, money back guarantee.  So it is completely risk free.  I can help you save 10% and get free shipping by becoming my Preferred Customer.

So what about this mini-facial Giveaway and how do I win?

I have a mini facial to give away to one lucky person who takes 2-3 minutes to go through the solutionIMG_4124 tool on my website.  Go to http://kathyottopal.myrandf.com  Select the solution tool icon at the bottom right and go through the 6 questions. Make sure to enter your email address at the end so it sends me your personal recommendations. Complete the tool by May 15th and you will be entered into the drawing. It’s just that easy! The mini facial is a little treat you apply at home and includes a packet of Microdermabrasion paste, and an ampule of night renewing serum for your face and another for your lips!

Feel free to contact me at any time about your personal skin concerns, KOTTOPALatGMAILdotCOM Rodan + Fields has something for everyone and I am always happy to share our amazing products or talk about this incredible business opportunity.

As the doctors always say, “Skin is a beautiful thing…Wear it well!”

Beat Up By The Mini Humans

IMG_3558

Oh he’s tough alright, about knocked a momma OUT!

As I was driving into work this morning I began to reflect on another Herron-crazy weekend. This is something I do most Monday’s since we tend to have intense weekends and it is nice to remember all the fun moments and even the stressful ones too. So there I am driving down the highway and I’m remembering the many times I was hurt by mini-humans, not emotionally but PHYSICALLY hurt!

There was the moment that Ab decided to do one of her little games called, “Bonk” where as you can imagine she bonks her head onto my head. We were watching a movie and she bonked a bit too hard and totally missed my head but instead rammed her thick skull onto my cheekbone, ahhh! You know the feeling when you are jarred and then all of a sudden your eye starts to water, yep, that was me. I tried to not lead on too much of the pain as I didn’t want her to feel too bad but there was a mini scolding going on and quite frankly I didn’t like playing that game anyway.

My little boy isn’t so innocent either! Not only did he keep me up just about every 1.5 hours on Saturday night going into Sunday (which in itself is more pain than I like to endure) but then Sunday morning the little stinker whacked my face with one of his hard plastic toys. It took some serious self-preservation to not yell a massively loud cuss word at that moment. Instead I did snag the toy and chucked it across the playroom in hopes that it would bury itself deep into the never ending land of toys and hopefully will not rear its ugly plastic monkey head again. Damn you evil monkey toy!

One of my last physical beat-downs from the kiddos came after a nice little jaunt to Station Road farm late yesterday afternoon. After coming back from picking out a few pumpkins to get our decor going for the outside of the house, Ab and I decided to rake leaves to put into a bag that looks like a pumpkin when all full – you know what I’m talking about. I’m raking leaves and using the doodads that look like massive tongs to pick up said leaves and Ab is holding up the pumpkin bag for me to dump them in. She was okay for this a few times but then decided she had to help me with the raking. Love me some toddler help and gladly handed her the rake. WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?!?!?!? I literally handed her a weapon!! Not only did she try to rake off my foot but the end of the handle was also jabbed into my temple. Stars, under-the-breath curse words and more teary eyes all with a ginormous “mommy-smile” on my face.

I’ll be honest, as I sit here at lunch recapping these events for blog-world, I’m so damn lucky to be alive! Whew, a bit bruised up and sore but alive! I wonder how many physical ailments Mr. Herron endured this weekend from our sweet and innocent kiddos?

#AmericanAirlinesFAIL at Family Friendly Traveling, updated 4.24.15

UPDATE 4.24.15 – #AmericanAirlinesFAIL Part 2: The Saga Continues 10 months Later

I’ve used this blog as a platform for sharing my family ups and downs, giveaways, updates on pregnancies, freebies, and now I’m sharing about my recent travel experience. George (@mrpreggers) and I recently hauled the family across the country all the way to CALIFORNIA for some family fun and my Take Shape For Life convention. Our weeklong vacation was awesome! Hands down it was amazing to take our babes to some seriously awesome places and create memories that hopefully Ab will remember and poor Jack will live through via pictures. But I’m going to have to share these experiences with you in a different post, this post is reserved for the epic fail that is American Airlines.

We started our travels at Dayton International Airport via American Airlines and it was GREAT! We brought our checked bags, one each per paid ticket which was Ab, George and myself, and we had our carry-ons, our stroller that holds both babes and both carseats. YES that is a lot but from my research it was all okay to bring with us. I was concerned with our stroller only because I have only traveled Southwest Airlines with Abbey and never been on this airline before so my first question at the ticket counter was, do I need to check the stroller or can it be checked at the gate. The lady at the ticket counter was so nice and assured us that it was okay for the stroller to be checked at the gate, FABULOUS! So our trek across the country via plane started in Dayton with a slight layover in Dallas then our final arrival at LAX.

Fast forward a week and a day and we are checking in at LAX this morning at 8:00am – what a disaster! We still had all the same stuff and started checking it all in at the ticket counter with no help and the ticket agent noticed our stress and requested a younger man to help with our bags, she was our saving grace in the morning but then it all went downhill from there.

Once we left the ticket agent and headed up the elevator (that the ticket agent pointed out for us because of our stroller) and started for TSA, we were stopped by an American Airline employee. Stopped because our stroller was too big to be gate checked. WHAT?!?! No problem, I stayed calm because this was clearly a mistake as we traveled from Dayton to LAX with said stroller with no problems. A supervisor was called over to help us and at this point I’m sweating bullets that we are going to be late for our flight, we hadn’t even gone through TSA yet on a busy Sunday morning at the LAX airport. The supervisor comes over and I’m basically doing a demonstration on how amazing our stroller is and she was not impressed. She had me take off some of the “parts” which were Jack’s Chicco car seat and the adapter for our City Select Stroller then head back downstairs to weigh my stroller. We went downstairs, weighed the stroller and it was over the “24lb” weight limit that was news to me as a weight limit for gate checked strollers.

The supervisor was super helpful despite my fear/panicked/sobbing attitude. All I kept thinking about was, “how are we going to get through some of the busiest airports, LAX and Chicago, without our stroller?” We had our carry-ons and diaper bag and really how do you carry a 3 month old infant and keep track of a very busy toddler while man-handling all the bags with diapers, extra clothes, snacks, games, etc?

The supervisor called over a new ticket agent to check our stroller – ARGH – and I said that if that was the case then the car seat and adapter for the stroller needed to be checked too (how are we going to carry those along with all the other stuff I listed and the two kiddos?) and that’s when the attitude started….the ticket agent was laying in on me about how I shouldn’t have brought such a heavy stroller, WHAT?!?!

As a reminder, we made it through Dayton to Dallas to LAX with this same stroller and stuff with ease, how could we not make it back?

Hands tied, we had to check our stroller…

I took the opportunity to share this experience via Twitter, what else would I do? @AmericanAir was extremely responsive but not too helpful.

Three airplanes later we arrived in Dayton tonight around 7:45pm and headed to baggage claim to pick up all of our stuff. Great news, it was all there! BAD NEWS, our stroller was BROKE! Yes, BROKE!

American Airline Broke Our Stroller photo 2 photo 3 photo 4 photo 5

Hmmmm….bad attitude ticket agent (second one) at LAX about our stroller and now it is broke….coincidence?

So in Dayton I had to track down an American Airline employee to get help on the broke stroller and to see what could be done. We met Amy and she was so sweet and so helpful but poor Amy couldn’t help us much. She was empathetic and really was upset that LAX made us check our stroller and didn’t understand, Amy was also upset that our stroller was broke and suggested that we surrender to the damage claims which meant losing our stroller for a week while it was either being fixed or replaced via insurance. We were okay with this option and waited for Amy to write up the paperwork.

BUT then Amy came back to us with more bad news, she had to call her supervisor, Alan, to help her with the paperwork and he said that per policy strollers were NOT covered under the damage claims and that he would be out to talk to us. So we waited and waited and waited. In the meantime I had George getting the car so we could load up and go to get the kids home at a somewhat decent time. When Alan came out to talk to me he had the policy paperwork all printed out and highlighted the section that spelled out how strollers were not covered. I explained how LAX forced me, they FORCED ME to check the stroller and then broke it and how was that not covered but Alan was just referring back to the policy. I asked him if he as a person, not an employee, thought it was fair for a family to travel from Dayton to LAX without checking the stroller then being forced to check it from LAX back to Dayton and then it was broke. He thought it was, and that’s when I knew that he wouldn’t be that helpful. I asked for someone else to help me and he suggested his manager Rodney and that’s where this story pauses for now. I have already left Rodney a message and expect to get a phone call from him by tomorrow and I can’t wait to hear his answer when I ask the question:

How will you help me brag about you and your company?

Because right now, it’s not great what I’m posting to Twitter/Facebook/Blog and I ask all of you to help me! Please retweet my posts on www.Twitter.com/JesyHerron and please share my story. I don’t think it’s fair that I was forced to check our stroller and then it was broke by American Airlines and they won’t do a thing for me. They want me to work with baggage services but I was told that their policy is policy. Does that seem fair? This is a $500 stroller and it needs to be replaced!!! We would love your help!! Love you all!!

Super Stars in the Making

The ladies of this Herron household are never shy around the camera and this time there is an informative video to prove it. Abbey and I were stars in the latest video produced by US Digital Partners for Pampers Kandoo to help introduce the Kandoo Potty Training Guide and Tools.

Timing is PERFECT! George and I are ready to introduce potty training to Abbey and we think the Potty Training Toolkit that Kandoo offers is the right tool and system for us and our family. We’d love for Abbey to be walking into preschool this fall wearing her big-girl-underwear versus packing the diapers and wipes. Not too mention that we are already using diapers for Jack so one less would save us a lot of money.

Check out the video to hear my advice on potty training and check out the cuteness of Abbey, as she is really the star!

Don’t forget to checkout the free tools with your very own free potty training guide, bathroom chart, door hanger and certificate provided here: http://www.kandookids.com/kandoo-potty-training-toolkit/

Full-Time Working Momma or Bust

One series of questions I get on a more than regular basis since having Jack are the following:

One of our many adventures from this past weekend.

One of our many adventures from this past weekend.

– Have you gone back to work?

YES

– Wow, already, how’s that been?

The answer to the second question is the one I say with a smirky smile and sort of feel guilty when I say it. My answer goes a little like this: I AM back to work and I’m loving it!

Which is typically followed up with…..

– Do you miss them?

um, DUH!

So why do I feel guilty for going back to work? I shouldn’t feel guilty for loving what I do, I should feel blessed, grateful, successful, ect. but instead I feel deep-down that my answer should be something like this: Ugh, yeah I’m back to work but I wish I had 4 more weeks with my babies. The truth is really that I DO love my babies and I DO miss them while at work but I feel like my calling is to be a full-time working momma, not a stay at home one. I give mad props to the ladies and gents who stay home with their kiddos and I give mad props to the grandma and grandpa’s and the babysitters who love my kids while I’m out fulfilling my purpose as a human being – working in corporate ‘murica.

But look at how much fun she is having!! #worthit

But look at how much fun she is having!! #worthit

There are some serious downsides to working full-time, I seriously run my family bonkers on the weekends. It’s like I’m trying to make up for the time lost during the week but jam-packing every fun thing I can think of into two days. Especially during the summer, that is when I’m a family event planner extraordinaire, or at least I think I am. We are at the zoo in the morning, pool in the afternoon, swing set outside while grilling out in the evening followed up with a movie kind of family. And that is a LOW-KEY day!

Please tell me I’m not abnormal – please tell me that there are other full-time working momma’s out there that are feeling the same way, pretty please 🙂

Had to add one of Jack too, he's just so damn cute and such a good sport about his momma's crazy antics!

My Squishy, Snuggly Babies Look Alike

When you have a baby one of the most hilarious games that friends and family instantly play is “who does baby look like” game. The comparisons with Abbey were to my baby picture, George’s baby picture, my adult self, his adult self, and other family members as well. But when Jack was born there was no doubt in my mind that he looked like a “skinnier” version of his big sister, Abbey. I will agree that Jack resembles others as well like his Grandpa Herron and his baby picture, his Uncle CJ and his baby picture but there is no doubt when you look at the comparison below that my squishy, snuggly babies look damn near identical.

Guess Which Baby Herron

Abbey is on the left at almost 3 months old and Jack is on the right at 2.5 months old! The similarities in them are endless and lucky us they are both so damn cute!

{Prego with Jack} 32 Weeks, There’s the Panic Button Again!

I just got done reading my 32 Week post when I was pregnant with Abbey and I was clearly in a panic mode. I want to say that it is different this time around but no, it is the same! Here I am at 32 weeks pregnant with Jack and we have decided to re-list our house, who does that? Um, yea, that would be me! I haven’t felt the same “nesting” symptoms like I did with Abbey, ahem gutting our only bathroom, instead I have been into organizing and re-organizing clothes for Jack that I have received from family/friends (thank you) into various tubs. Pulling out the Newborn and 0-3 month sizes only so that our house isn’t in a state of madness for the days we have showings. I’m trying to only think positive vibes for our house to sell quickly so that maybe, JUST MAYBE, we can be in a new house right around the arrival of Jack Edward Herron.

{How far along?} 32 Weeks

Ab joined me for my 32 Week picture{Total weight gain} I am feeling defeated in this category right now. I did soooo great about watching what I ate, making sure I wasn’t gaining too much and I feel like the wheels have literally flung off the train recently. George has been so sweet in this department. He tells me I’m “cute pregnant” and reminds me when I say I’m fat that I’m not and that I’m pregnant. I’m trying to not stress about my weight gain and to just enjoy these last few months of pregnancy knowing that I have the tools to get this weight back off!

{How big is baby?} According to the interwebs, Jack should be almost 4 pounds and Dr. Caligaris said that my belly was measuring perfect this time around. With Ab I was measuring two weeks later and just all-around much bigger. I’m wondering how big Jack will be at birth!

{Maternity clothes?} YES! I just requested ordered a few things off OldNavy.com with my rewards to help get me through these last 2 months. It is sooooo cold and I’m just wearing the same things over and over and over.

{Sleep?} Do I really have to sleep on my left side ALL. THE. TIME? I swear, I’m getting ear cramps on my left ear. I tell this to George and he thinks I’m friggin bonkers but it is true! I’ll wake up and my ear has the worst cramp.

{Best moment this week?} There are so many great moments while being pregnant with Jack. Abbey is a huge contributor to these moments because she is so interested and interactive with him/my belly. Another fun moment was my awesome company and co-workers throwing George, Abbey, Jack and I a baby shower. Could they seriously get any better?

{Movement?} OH yes!

{Food cravings?} Nothing really to report here except for the best adult grilled cheese and tomato soup combo ever! Thank you Panera! The worst about this craving (besides the fact that it is terrible for you) is that George absolutely HATES Panera, talk about a conundrum.

{Labor signs?} Occasional braxton hicks, I think?

{Heart Burn} You know, this was actually a big problem a few weeks ago but right now I’m sitting pretty in this department. Who am I kidding anyways, my Abbey girl was damn near bald until she was 18 months old. Know chance that Jack has that much hair when he is born.

{Belly button in or out?} In….barely! Each week I’m losing my “innie” belly button. (That was my update with Abbey and it is true with Jack) Ab loving Jack

{What I miss} Warm weather but that has nothing to do with my pregnancy. I just hope in April that I’ll be taking walks with my two babies in some nice spring weather.

{What I’m looking forward to} Just like with my pregnancy with Abbey, I’m excited to see Jack for our 36 week ultrasound. Just a few more weeks!

{Milestone} Not sure if these are milestones or just flat out dumb things to do while I’m hugely prego but we will be taking Abbey to DisneyLive in February, George is taking me to Wicked in early March and we are taking Abbey to the circus in mid-March. OH my lawd! I should get a shirt that says, “WIDE LOAD” or “PEES A LOT” because I’m sure I’ll be up a lot during these performances. But that is one thing I have learned with being pregnant with a toddler at home, life does NOT stop!

Here is my “comparison” picture of being pregnant with Abbey at 32 weeks and being pregnant with Jack at 32 weeks. These pictures never cease to amaze me and it just reinforces my thankfulness of getting healthy (the healthiest I’ve been in a loooooong time) before the start of my pregnancy. No wonder Dr. Caligaris kept saying I measured farther along with Abbey and I’m measuring on-time, on-schedule with Jack. My belly with Ab was HUGE (and so were my boobs, WOWZA!

You Might Recognize This Face on BoogieWipes.com

If you are family then you surely know that my Abbey-girl has been working up to her 47 seconds of fame (literally) in a new video. What most of you do not know is that Abbey is also a cutie-pa-tutie face on a website too. I would be a crazy mom to NOT brag about this little opportunity for Abbey, she could be a movie star all because her momma’s work (US Digital Partners) wanted her in a video when she was two years old.

I’ll cut to the chase and share both the video and website where you can find Abbey’s Hollywood career starting pieces of work!

Abbey on BoogieWipes.com

Please be sure to actually check Abbey out on the live website at BoogieWipes.com and be sure to “thumbs-up” the video on the Boogie Wipes YouTube channel or leave a comment. It would be great to get a lot of traffic for the company that Abbey is representing as we truly do love the Boogie Wipes and Boogie Mist products at TheHerronNest!

{Giveaway} Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spa Face Masques – Carol Wenstrup is the WINNER!

Oh yes, you read that right! I’m giving away a set of three Montagne Jeunesse clay spa face masques which I absolutely love. I was a lucky Influenster recipient of the Glacial Clay Spa face mask and it was my absolute favorite product of the Influenster Violet Voxbox package. Here is what I wrote about the masque I was lucky enough to get my hands on:

{Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spa} Hands down, this is by far my favorite product out of all the products I was sent to try. The application was a cinch and it made my skin feel amazing. You didn’t have to dig your fingers into a jar, get mask “stuff” stuck under your nails and make a complete mess of your bathroom sink. You know what I mean! This was a pre-cut mask that fit nicely over your freshly clean face. You wear for about 10-15 minutes, pitch the mask and rinse your face – DONE – and it was literally that easy. The only con was that Ab said I was “scary” and it took her a few minutes to warm up to the idea that mommy was really under the mask.

I’m sure you are salivating at the idea of sending kids back to school (ugh, will that ever happen? Stupid snow and cold weather), filling up the bathtub, filling up the wine glass, and applying one of the three masks you could win for a night of relaxation. Here is a sneak peak at the three clay spa masques that you could win!

Meeting Jack in 3D

Meeting Jack in 3D

As I settle in on a Sunday night (football in the background of course), I’m reflecting on the last week and what a whirlwind it has been. No better way to wrap up Christmas than to see our baby boy in 3D – he is so handsome! I’m hoping for continued health for both Jack and myself in my last trimester. After seeing him and comparing his features to Abbey, I’m more excited to meet our little man but I’m cherishing these moments with Abbey as a family of three. What a great way to begin to wrap up 2013, such a great year!
