Happy Holidays at The Herron Nest

We at The Herron Nest are feeling pretty blessed this holiday season. We have had a very merry Christmas with so many family gatherings, toys littered all over the floor and quality family-time with each other. Here are a few pics from the last week that sums up the pure joy from all of us.

Meeting Jack in 3D

Meeting Jack in 3D

As I settle in on a Sunday night (football in the background of course), I’m reflecting on the last week and what a whirlwind it has been. No better way to wrap up Christmas than to see our baby boy in 3D – he is so handsome! I’m hoping for continued health for both Jack and myself in my last trimester. After seeing him and comparing his features to Abbey, I’m more excited to meet our little man but I’m cherishing these moments with Abbey as a family of three. What a great way to begin to wrap up 2013, such a great year!

#VioletVoxBox Review for YOU

voxbox-blogimage-popup2I am one of the lucky Influenster members that was sent the Violet VoxBox this month to use and review a variety of different products. Because I am a member of Influenster, I received all products complimentary, lucky muah! If you are also interested in a similar opportunity, you can certainly strut your social media and blogging credentials at www.influenster.com. It did take a little while to get my first package but so worth the wait!

Now that the legalese is done, let’s get to the good stuff, what products I was sent and how I thought of each.

My #VioletVoxBox came in the mail during the first major snow storm in Cincinnati, literally through rain, sleet and snow this violet still bloomed and made its way to my door step…in a violet colored box of course.

#Influenster #VioletVoxBox The contents couldn’t fly out of the box fast enough, I love getting these packages in the mail because they are typically something that will make me feel like a better version of myself. It is amazing what a little makeup, nail polish, and good hair products can do for a woman’s mood, right?

#Influenster #VioletVoxBox contents{Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spa} Hands down, this is by far my favorite product out of all the products I was sent to try. The application was a cinch and it made my skin feel amazing. You didn’t have to dig your fingers into a jar, get mask “stuff” stuck under your nails and make a complete mess of your bathroom sink. You know what I mean! This was a pre-cut mask that fit nicely over your freshly clean face. You wear for about 10-15 minutes, pitch the mask and rinse your face – DONE – and it was literally that easy. The only con was that Ab said I was “scary” and it took her a few minutes to warm up to the idea that mommy was really under the mask.

(Not Your Mother’s – Clean Freak Style} As you can see in the image above my friend @Kelsey_Gal really loves this product. That actually got me super pumped to have dirty hair just so I could use this dry shampoo. I’m typically a wash-every-other-day hair person, I take a shower but just don’t wash my hair every day. I heard one time that it was better for your hair and as much as I blow dry and straighten my locks, I would believe this. I’m lucky enough that my hair actually looks pretty fantastic on day 2 so I actually had to wait till day 3 before I had some of the grease look. All you do is spray the dry shampoo into your roots, brush (I also blew my hair out while brushing) and DONE. I think the smell could be improved but the results were great.

{Sally Hansen Triple Shine} So I am prego and have decided that bending over to touch my toes let alone paint them is pretty much a chore. God love him, my fantastic husband was the one that actually painted my toe nails so that I could say I indeed used this product. The color I received was the bright yellow shown above, not my favorite color to wear especially when I’m already pale, but again it was worth the try. The applicator is not your typical brush, it is more of a long rectangle stick with a brush on the end, what is the purpose of that? I felt like a lot of the color just sort of hung there and too much was then dripped onto the nail. All in all, this product was okay. Not my favorite nail polish but yes, it was shiny.

{Goody ATHLETIQUE} It is pretty much a necessity for me to wear a sport headband when I engage in any sport/exercise. The day that I wore my Goody Athletique headband around the house it was a nice difference in just a pony but the day that I wore it to my very first Pure Barre class was just damned frustrating. I don’t have time to re-adjust and re-do my hair 20 times when I’m trying to tighten my “seat” and make sure my legs are in a perfect V on the floor. Needless to say, I’m going to stick with my beloved Sweaty Bands when it comes to my sport headband accessory. It got me through a half marathon withOUT budging  – it aint broke and I aint going to fix it.

{SOYJOY} If you haven’t noticed the pattern by now I’ll go ahead and point it out to you, I’m going from most favorite product to my least favorite product. Yes folks, this was least favorite. I’m sorry but it is straight up NAST-E! I took one bite, guzzled water to get it down, took another bite hoping it would get better. I spit that out and threw it away. Nothing else to say here 🙂

{Giveaway} The Simple Portrait Project Family Photo Shoot

With the holiday season upon us, it is impossible to not be in a giving mood. And in the spirit of “giving” I’m thrilled to be sharing this special giveaway on The Herron Nest with all of you.

I was recently approached by a very loving family about the idea of giving away a photo shoot to a family who doesn’t have the means to pay for this themselves. With presents to be purchased and large families to host, sometimes these extras aren’t in the budget, right?

Here is how this unique giveaway will work:

Please post a comment with a little description about what “family” means to you and why the donors should pick your family for this fun photo session {Check out the gallery and photo style of photographers, Jonbob and Jeremy, at http://thesimpleportraitproject.com}. Feel free to share this post with a family you feel will really appreciate the offer or “nominate” a family that deserves an opportunity to be photographed together for the holidays.

{Photo Shoot Details}

  • Plan to show up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time, typically there will be many families there as they do back-to-back 30 minute sessions all day.
  • What you wear is as important—and so is what everyone else is wearing. Consider what the group is wearing as a whole. Look like you belong together; a similar color palette, similar season. Make sure clothes are clean and pressed because details show. And NO MATCHING OUTFITS!!! {per http://thesimpleportraitproject.com}
  • Expect two to four set-ups per 30-minute session. For larger groups, one session will probably only yield one beautiful group shoot
  • This a stress-free photo shoot.  No need for Sunday best – jeans and bare feet turn out great!

{Giveaway Details}

The giveaway includes one 1/2 hour photo shoot {date and time has already been chosen, make sure you are available for the time-slot} and 4 Hi Res JPEG “digital” prints via disc. Additional Hi Res JPEG files are $25 each available for your choice to purchase. There are also options of purchasing archival-quality signed prints {see pricing} or you can simply take the disc and choose your print method ie: Snapfish, Shutterfly, etc.

  • Date – December 1st
  • Time – 12:30 pm
  • Location – 308 8th Street, 6th Floor, Cincinnati, OH 45202

The family who wins the Simple Portrait Project Family Photo Shoot giveaway will be chosen on November 27th – all entries must be submitted by 1pm on 11/27 for consideration. Be sure to leave your email address in the comments section so that you can be contacted promptly.

*That’s right, I’m NOT picking the winner, Random.org is NOT picking the winner, but the anonymous family who is giving away the photo session, is going to decide.

Abbey Moments

As a parent of a toddler who is constantly in “entertainment” mode, I wish I could capture each and every single moment but that just isn’t possible. This blog along with Facebook and Instagram have certainly helped but I must say, this weekend was chock full of Abbyisms that I need to record now! Don’t want to forget…..Don’t want to forget…..Don’t want to forget! So here goes a few of my favorites even though this doesn’t cover even half of the moments. Pshhh.. if only TLC would recognize the disfunctional talent my family has and start taping us for our own reality show already. C’mon TLC, we are way more entertaining than Kate Gosselin.

{Abbeyism #1}

As Abbey, George and I were playing in our very empty basement she decides that she no longer wants to play and instead she wants to watch “Mickey Mouse Cub House.” And so she hops up on the couch and starts saying over and over “Mickey Mouse Cub House.” As a mom who wants to limit the TV time, I said no and told her she needed to come off the couch to play with mommy and daddy. She didn’t like my answer and decided to tell me again “Mickey Mouse Cub House Mommy.” At this point George had to cover his face so she wouldn’t see him laughing while I was disciplining. Abbey then shouted to George, “Daddy, I see you!” And then we were done, the laughing from the both of us was uncontrollable at that point. Although, we didn’t watch the show but did play. Mommy/Daddy 1 – Abbey 0Abbey and Mommy

{Abbeyism #2}

Goofing around on Sunday morning after Abbey had  woken up and still had her binky in her mouth (we are on a limit of naps and bedtime only as we further attempt to wean her from her binky time) and she had been snuggling with mommy and daddy. She pulled up my shirt and shared her binky with Squishy. Of course she thinks Squishy lives in my belly button and attempts to push the binky in my belly button or she will try to tickle Squishy and basically shoves her finger in my belly button. Awww sibling love!

{Abbeyism #3}Abbey tantrum

After taking Ab to the zoo for some Abbey and Mommy time (which we had a BLAST), we were getting in the car and Ab said to me, “I have fun momma.” Serious heart melter! I need to remember these sweet moments when she is sitting at the dinner table crying for 20 minutes over the last bite of food I want her to eat! That is a whole different story with the bottom line of mommy and daddy winning so I guess the score is now Mommy and Daddy 2 – Abbey 0. OH trust me friends, she wins a LOT! Did you see my Facebook post about the $9.00 pumpkins for her and Bubby? Yea, there was a lot of “Pease Momma” going on that day!

{Abbeyism #4}

Post Loveland Bike Trail PhotoComing home from a fun day Sunday of a couple miles in the Loveland bike trail (11.5 which is damn good for a prego) and dinner at The Works (not good by the way) we were in the car trying to keep Abbey awake. It was only 7:00pm and I wanted to make sure she got a bath when she got home and didn’t want her to fall asleep just to wake her up because she never would have gone down at descent time. So Abbey and I were bantering back and forth and I would yell back to her in a funny voice, “NO SLEEPING!” and she would yell it back to me and giggle. But one time after I yelled the “NO SLEEPING” she muttered under her breath, “Oh god.” Umm what? I had to correct her with, you mean “gosh.” Where does she learn this… ahem, George, I mean, I dunno.

15 Weeks – Baby Squishy Pregnancy

15 Weeks{How far along?} 15 Weeks, 4 days

{Total weight gain} Wowzer, I forgot how tough these questions were, this one is especially tough for me. I was about 80% towards my 50 pound weight-loss goal when I found out I was pregnant. Since adding fruits, dairy, pregnancy cravings and well just being pregnant, I have gained 10 pounds since the end of July. I was having the hardest time with this gain but have FINALLY gotten over it and am completely enjoying my pregnancy.

{How big is baby?} Baby Squishy is about 3-4 ounces right now. Amazing how I’ve pooched out and gained weight for our little baby that is weighing in the same size as a naval orange.

{Maternity clothes?} OH how I missed maternity pants!! All new maternity clothes are now taking over my closet, I’ll be hitting up the consignment shops soon for more black pants and jeans.

{Sleep?} Getting good sleep but having some whacked out dreams – seriously crazy ass dreams!

{Best moment this week?} Anytime Abbey-girl says hi to Squishy or gives my belly a kiss. She unfortunately isn’t too subtle and has been known to pull my shirt up or down to get to the bump.

{Movement?} I started to really feel the tickles this past week. If you see me itching my belly, no worries it is just me thinking there is a bug crawling under my shirt, um, I mean the baby is moving.

{Food cravings?} Not really…..

{Labor signs?} NO

{Heart Burn} NO

{Belly button in or out?} IN

{What I miss} n/a

{What I’m looking forward to} Another gender reveal party!

{Milestone} We put the house up on the market today – this was a LOT of hardwork. Check out the photos and listing!

The Herron’s Have Fun News

This is one of those really exciting times that we have wanted to share for a while now but wanted to make sure it was the right moment. Well, that moment has come and now it’s time to share our super-duper fun news.

20130921-174809.jpg

George, Abbey and I all got to hear Baby Herron’s heartbeat last week. Dr. Caligaris looked at Abbey when we were listening and told her “that right there is your competition” boy does he know her well. How do you tell a 22 month old that she is going to be a big sister? I’m not worried, Abbey loves babies and I’ll just pray that she loves her new baby as much as the ones she gushes over at the store or park.

Baby Herron (who needs a nickname) will be making his or her presence into this world next March. I’m 13 weeks along and popping out already – oh yeah and I’m already rocking some maternity clothes. I forgot how wonderful maternity pants were, so comfy!

20130921-175629.jpg

As I’ve always done, I’ll be tracking the pregnancy here and documenting week 13 through the end of March when we get to meet our baby. So follow along, I’m sure it will be fun!!

Lots of praise to my oh-so-talented cousin, Gayle Rothmeeler, for capturing this moment and helping us to tell the world that we will be a family of four – Life Through the Lens

Abbey and the Sunflowers at 20 Months

For the second year we have had the opportunity to get pictures taken in the Sunflower field at Cottell Park in Mason, OH. The setting is always breathtaking and for the second year in a row we have completely lucked out on the weather. I was almost giddy when I saw the first sign of bloom at the corner of Snider and Irwin-Simpson Road, had to take a few iPhone pics myself and let Gayle know that we were ready for the pictures in the sunflower field. There are several reasons why these are among my absolute favorite pictures of Abbey; we are in a field of sunflowers, my photography genius cousin (Gayle Rothmeeler) is the one taking the photos, Abbey gets to run around and play at the park after we are done capturing the perfect shots and we always seem to luck out with the weather.

Here are some of my personal favorites from the teaser shots that Gayle sent me through her photography Facebook page:

Here are just a few shots that I put side-by-side to show the comparison from 9 months old (last years photo session) and 20 months old. SHOEY that girl was a healthy looking baby! I miss those puffy cheeks.
9mo to 20 mo AbbeyThe sunflowers are still in bloom and probably will be for the next week or so, I encourage you to at least check out the fields as they are gorgeous in person. And if you want your little one’s pictures taken or pictures for the family, you can reach out to Gayle at 513.258.7337.

MMMM…Motorboatin’

All my poor dad wanted to do on Father’s day was to putz around Brookville lake on his new toy. As luck would have it, the boat needed some minor repair and wasn’t ready in time for this “perfect” day. No worries, we Wenstrup’s aren’t wired to handle the word “no” very well (family inside joke that NO actually means, not right now) and planned the perfect Father’s day just one week later.

As you can see, Abbey and Mason really enjoyed Papa’s boat!

Tough life for this little girl…

Could not have asked for bigger smiles, more fun, better weather, louder giggles (and squeals), and an all around more amazing time than we had with each other yesterday. It was exactly what I imagined, except for me getting in the lake with Abbey (not my favorite part), for my dad’s Father’s day.

Happy Fridays with Grandma

My mom is probably among the top 5 happiest people in the world on Fridays because of these two kiddos right here, Mason and Abbey.

{CHEERS!} is what Mason says to Abbey and then they “clink” milk cups, awwww! I’m thankful that my girl is growing up surrounded by family that loves her so much.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

For the past month (clearly I’m a procrastinator) we’ve been gearing up for this one day, December 25th. All the decorating, shopping, cooking, crafting and wrapping has led us to 24 hours of pure Christmas spirit. And this year George and I were able to watch it all unfold through the eyes of toddlers. Mason (2 year old nephew), Henry (1 year old nephew) and Abbey were so much fun to watch tear open presents and be giddy about what was inside but more importantly, they were giddy about the paper! There were so many presents and delicious food and oh so yummy wine but there was also so much laughter and love. I feel amazingly blessed to be surrounded by such a loving and caring family and three adorable little munchkins who brought so much joy to this holiday season. Mushy, mushy, mushy… I’ll move on!

Here are pictures of Abbey and her cousins enjoying Christmas day:

Toddler Christmas 2012

P.S. The ottoman’s in the top right picture (with Mason) and bottom left picture (with Henry) are ones that I made thanks to Pinterest and my mom. Mom and I worked on this all day last Sunday and it was a lot of fun learning to sew from my momma. Abbey also got an ottoman and I promise to post pictures of these beauties and instructions on how to make them very, very soon. And apparently I’m taking orders to make them as presents for my friend’s kids so just message me and I might just make one for you too!

P.P.S. Christmas was NOT ruined thanks to my in-law’s who got Abbey and Henry the Anywhere Chairs from Pottery Barn Kids. Check out my hectic rant from an earlier post when I lost my $100 Pottery Barn gift card.

P.P.P.S. The Pottery Barn gift card is still lost, boo!
