So I’m not the biggest baseball fan {gasp} but even I think it is cool for Cincinnati to be hosting the MLB All Star Game 2015. The buzz and energy around the city is contagious! Everywhere you turn or look downtown Cincinnati you’ll find “ASG” or “All Star Game” graffiti. My favorite ASG Cincinnati additions are a toss up between the Mustache statues around town and the Scripps Building transformation to resemble Mr. Redlegs with the pillbox hat and mustache.
Cousins visiting from Atlanta enjoying the view of Mr Redlegs
If you are in town visiting for the All Star Game or even a native to the ‘Nati you can use this map to help you locate All Star Game Mustache Statues around the downtown Cincinnati region.
Have you thought about using the Red Bike to get around Downtown Cincinnati while searching for the All Star Game Mustache Statues? Here is a fun video that my company, US Digital Partners, produced to give a fun tour of the Downtown Cincinnati attractions for DCI and to promote the new Downtown Cincinnati app. The app was produced as an essential guide to Downtown Cincinnati visitors and locals to find a current list of what’s happening downtown. You can browse restaurants, bars, shops, parking and attractions. Click play below and check out yours truly riding around Downtown Cincinnati showcasing all the great things to do and see while you are visiting for the All Star Game 2015 and don’t forget to download the new app!

What are you most looking forward to during the All Star Game 2015 festivities?
Today I met some super blogging rockstars and heard about many of their blog content, success stories and how they conduct business with PR firms on sponsored posts. No joke, these bloggers are so cool! It was like watching some documentary on talented athletes when they give you a “behind the scenes” tour and talk about how they were able to have so many slam dunks, home runs or touchdowns. The other awesome vibe I took away from meeting these superstars was that they all were so transparent and helpful towards each other – there was never any blogger-on-blogger crime but more of “you aren’t charging enough” and “congratulations on that awesome opportunity” which was great to hear. I met a blogger who contributes to Pillsbury and one blogger who’s daughter was just found out she will have a line with J. Crew {p.s. she is FOUR years old}. I’m telling you – CRAZY talent in Cincinnati. So because I was just bumping elbows with the best of blogging in the city, I thought I would share with you some of their Giveaway posts that allows you to not only add great reading material to your daily/weekly intake but also potentially win some cool swag.
One series of questions I get on a more than regular basis since having Jack are the following:
One of our many adventures from this past weekend.
– Have you gone back to work?
YES
– Wow, already, how’s that been?
The answer to the second question is the one I say with a smirky smile and sort of feel guilty when I say it. My answer goes a little like this: I AM back to work and I’m loving it!
Which is typically followed up with…..
– Do you miss them?
um, DUH!
So why do I feel guilty for going back to work? I shouldn’t feel guilty for loving what I do, I should feel blessed, grateful, successful, ect. but instead I feel deep-down that my answer should be something like this: Ugh, yeah I’m back to work but I wish I had 4 more weeks with my babies. The truth is really that I DO love my babies and I DO miss them while at work but I feel like my calling is to be a full-time working momma, not a stay at home one. I give mad props to the ladies and gents who stay home with their kiddos and I give mad props to the grandma and grandpa’s and the babysitters who love my kids while I’m out fulfilling my purpose as a human being – working in corporate ‘murica.
But look at how much fun she is having!! #worthit
There are some serious downsides to working full-time, I seriously run my family bonkers on the weekends. It’s like I’m trying to make up for the time lost during the week but jam-packing every fun thing I can think of into two days. Especially during the summer, that is when I’m a family event planner extraordinaire, or at least I think I am. We are at the zoo in the morning, pool in the afternoon, swing set outside while grilling out in the evening followed up with a movie kind of family. And that is a LOW-KEY day!
Please tell me I’m not abnormal – please tell me that there are other full-time working momma’s out there that are feeling the same way, pretty please 🙂
Had to add one of Jack too, he’s just so damn cute and such a good sport about his momma’s crazy antics!

With the holiday season upon us, it is impossible to not be in a giving mood. And in the spirit of “giving” I’m thrilled to be sharing this special giveaway on The Herron Nest with all of you.
I was recently approached by a very loving family about the idea of giving away a photo shoot to a family who doesn’t have the means to pay for this themselves. With presents to be purchased and large families to host, sometimes these extras aren’t in the budget, right?
Here is how this unique giveaway will work:
Please post a comment with a little description about what “family” means to you and why the donors should pick your family for this fun photo session {Check out the gallery and photo style of photographers, Jonbob and Jeremy, at http://thesimpleportraitproject.com}. Feel free to share this post with a family you feel will really appreciate the offer or “nominate” a family that deserves an opportunity to be photographed together for the holidays.
{Photo Shoot Details}
Plan to show up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time, typically there will be many families there as they do back-to-back 30 minute sessions all day.
What you wear is as important—and so is what everyone else is wearing. Consider what the group is wearing as a whole. Look like you belong together; a similar color palette, similar season. Make sure clothes are clean and pressed because details show. And NO MATCHING OUTFITS!!! {per http://thesimpleportraitproject.com}
Expect two to four set-ups per 30-minute session. For larger groups, one session will probably only yield one beautiful group shoot
This a stress-free photo shoot. No need for Sunday best – jeans and bare feet turn out great!
{Giveaway Details}
The giveaway includes one 1/2 hour photo shoot {date and time has already been chosen, make sure you are available for the time-slot} and 4 Hi Res JPEG “digital” prints via disc. Additional Hi Res JPEG files are $25 each available for your choice to purchase. There are also options of purchasing archival-quality signed prints {see pricing} or you can simply take the disc and choose your print method ie: Snapfish, Shutterfly, etc.
The family who wins the Simple Portrait Project Family Photo Shoot giveaway will be chosen on November 27th – all entries must be submitted by 1pm on 11/27 for consideration. Be sure to leave your email address in the comments section so that you can be contacted promptly.
*That’s right, I’m NOT picking the winner, Random.org is NOT picking the winner, but the anonymous family who is giving away the photo session, is going to decide.
This week has been very exciting and “Disney-themed.”

For the second year we have had the opportunity to get pictures taken in the Sunflower field at Cottell Park in Mason, OH. The setting is always breathtaking and for the second year in a row we have completely lucked out on the weather. I was almost giddy when I saw the first sign of bloom at the corner of Snider and Irwin-Simpson Road, had to take a few iPhone pics myself and let Gayle know that we were ready for the pictures in the sunflower field. There are several reasons why these are among my absolute favorite pictures of Abbey; we are in a field of sunflowers, my photography genius cousin (Gayle Rothmeeler) is the one taking the photos, Abbey gets to run around and play at the park after we are done capturing the perfect shots and we always seem to luck out with the weather.
Here are some of my personal favorites from the teaser shots that Gayle sent me through her photography Facebook page:
Here are just a few shots that I put side-by-side to show the comparison from 9 months old (last years photo session) and 20 months old. SHOEY that girl was a healthy looking baby! I miss those puffy cheeks. The sunflowers are still in bloom and probably will be for the next week or so, I encourage you to at least check out the fields as they are gorgeous in person. And if you want your little one’s pictures taken or pictures for the family, you can reach out to Gayle at 513.258.7337.
I’m sure like many other families with both parents working, the weekends become madness with cramming all family time into just 2 short days. Our family is no different except for the fact that my family includes me! I want to do so much that I’m literally dragging George and Abbey all over the place and come Sunday night we are all extremely exhausted. Luckily we are all having fun and creating great memories together. Here are some highlights of a typical Herron Nest weekend.
Friday:
Dinner out at McAlister’s
Ice cream with Grandma and Grandpa Bird to celebrate 39th wedding anniversary
Shopping at Carter’s for Abbey (spoiled by above grandparents!)
Saturday:
Started the day with a morning run
Head downtown to wait in line for Bengals practice tickets
Brunch at Taste of Belgium in OTR
Meet up with old co-worker and his wife to play at Washington Park
Head home for Abbey’s nap while I weed the front garden
Cousin and kids pop over for lunch and play with Abbey and George and friend go to Bengals practice
Aunt Jami came over to spoil and watch Abbey crawl
Met up with friends and their kids out for dinner at El Pueblo’s
Came back to the house to give everyone a tour of Kat’s amazing remodeled home (totally HGTV looking)
The kiddos played at our house
And then everyone went to bed!
Sunday:
Clean up around the house
Laundry
Abbey nap time = George and Jesy get things done or nap a bit (LOVE naps by the way)
Laundry again
Pool time
Dinner
More Laundry
Abbey gets a bath
Put Abbey to bed
And more laundry
THEN CRASH!
As George and I have said, this is what its all about. Feeling exhausted on Sunday knowing that we had a great weekend filled with lots of Abbey playtime and getting some stuff around the house. I know that we are not the only ones that jam-pack our weekends but I’m also curious as to how the rest of you balance family life. How often and when do you and your significant other do date nights? What is your typical weekend like? Maybe we are the only ones that go 100 miles per hour from 6:00p Friday night to 8:00p Sunday night. Any and all comments welcome!
